Fashion orientated as we are, Concept prioritises your health above all else. A Newcastle opticians using the latest in optical technology, our OCT scan can detect evidence of potentially serious conditions like glaucoma or diabetes. All eyes are at risk of damage and an early detection can be key. Our clinic on Tynemouth Front Street offers free eye tests.
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
Cutting edge visual technology
An advanced screening system to check the health of your eyes has arrived at Concept. The 3D OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) is advanced technology revolution to analyse the retina. It’s a bit like an MRI scan for your eyes. A step or in fact a significant leap forward from digital photography - which is already integrated into your sight test – an OCT scan now offers the most comprehensive picture to detect common and not so common eye conditions.
The Optical Coherence Tomography, or OCT appointment is conducted by our highly experienced optometrist. As not everyone needs this scan, he will determine whether you would personally benefit from having this assessment. The appointment itself is a relaxed process taking the same time as a normal sight test, with you the patient, being able to view the images alongside the optometrist.
What does an OCT do?
The ZEISS OCT checks for potentially serious conditions including:
- Glaucoma (or a family history of glaucoma)
- Age-related macular degeneration
- Vitreous detachments
- Early stages of multiple sclerosis (including it’s progression through retinal thinning)
All eyes are at risk from damage. Concept can now screen for early glaucoma and macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease in any age group and manifestations of other systemic disease which can present in the eyes.
“The introduction of an OCT for the benefit of our patients is a natural progression for us to continue to meet gold standard in clinical excellence” Vik K. MD
